When completing job applications online or on paper, attention to detail is key. Make sure your proof-read your application before you turn it in or click “submit.” Here’s a simple checklist to refer to:
Write legibly and neatly.
Complete all sections including: contact information, educational background and employment history.
Make sure you have the address, phone number, and name of your employer for all prior jobs held. Check your dates of employment and previous rate of pay for each job you held.
If attaching your resume, run a spell and grammar check.
Tailor your answers to the job you are seeking.
Document your talents and skill sets.
If you're not sure what to write on the application form about salary, simply put “open” or “negotiable.”
Don’t leave any blanks.
Make sure you list your honors and awards, as well as volunteer work and internships.
Have a list of references and their contact information available in case you need to list them on your application. Ask their permission before you include your reference’s name and contact information.
Don’t give inaccurate information about your credentials be as accurate as possible.
