The first Sophomore Soiree was held April 24, 1908 at the Ten Eyck Hotel in Albany. The Soiree originated as the Sophomore Banquet, which became more of a dance than a banquet. In 1912, the Soiree moved to campus and was held at the Pittsburg Building. Other locations included the Armory and Houston Field House. Popular bands provided the entertainment for the formal dance which was billed as the biggest social event of the year. A Soiree queen was chosen and crowned during the dance. By the 1960's, the Soiree Ball was part of a weekend of events planned by the IFC. |
