Graduated from City College of New York with a B.S. in physics and chemistry.

1951

Earned an M.S. in physical chemistry at Yale University.

1953

Earned a Ph.D. in physical chemsitry at Yale University.

1953-1977

Worked for Westinghouse Electrical Corporation, where he ultimately became Technical Director.

1977-1983

Served as Dean of Science and later Provost at Carnegie-Mellon University.

1983

Appointed Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

1984

Named Acting President of Rensselaer.

1985-1987

President of Rensselaer

1987

Named Institute Professor of Science and Technology.
