A winter festival was held on campus during a weekend in February. The main event was a semi-formal dance known as the Snowflake Saturnalia, first held in 1949. A Saturnalia queen and court were elected to reign over the winter weekend events. A snow sculpture contest, based on the theme, was held on Saturday morning when weather permitted. Other events included a ski meet, a hockey game, plays, concerts, movies and fraternity parties. Saturnalia peaked in popularity in the 1960's, and faded from view in the 1970's. |
