Cooperative Education Program

The co-op program provides you with experience and a chance to change the world!

Rensselaer co-op's are employed in dynamic positions all across the United States working in industry, government and business.

Co-op opportunities available through the Co-op Director at Rensselaer:

  • Brookhaven National Laboratory
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has established a National program entitled the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI). The program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories.

  • Naval Research Laboratory
NRL has a long history of hiring physics majors from Rensselaer for various co-op positions. NRL participates in several Student Programs, each with their own features and requirements.

  • Jet Propulsion Laboratory
JPL and RPI have a very strong co-op relationship. The objectives of the JPL Cooperative Education Program are to:
    • Provide the practical experience of applying theories and principles learned in the classroom.
    • Provide the opportunity to develop transferable skills, as well as acquaint participants with the missions and goals of the Laboratory.
    • Provide the Co-op employee with the opportunity to determine the kind of work for which he or she might best be suited.
    • Provide a source of potential full-time employees for JPL.

  • Sandia National Laboratory
Sandia welcomes student interns and co-ops. Students work on real-world, challenging projects; they also socialize, travel, and explore life in New Mexico and California.

  • Unilever
Unilever is currently seeking to fill several co-op positions in various locations. Positions are available in R&D as well as manufacturing. One of the majors that they are interested in is Physics.

  • MIT Lincoln Labatory
MIT Lincoln Laboratory applies advanced technology to problems critical to national security. Behind the Laboratory's solutions are researchers with excellent technical abilities and imagination working in cross-disciplinary collaborations to develop systems from the initial concept stage, through simulation and analysis, to design and prototyping, and finally to real-world demonstrations.
