Alumni Connections Online

LinkedIn, Facebook, @RPInet, and more help alumni network online

As the concept of “networking” becomes more tied to online tools, the Alumni Office is working to ensure that alumni can connect easily with each other in many of the most popular online sites. Following is a look at some of the ways Rensselaer alumni are interacting:

The alumni Web community @RPInet has been around for several years, but if you haven’t visited in a while, come back and check out the new features being added. Tools include a searchable alumni directory, an @alum.rpi.edu e-mail address, online class notes, and event registration. You may update your contact information online, then select which information you’d like to make available to other alumni. Using the advanced search function, you may search by industry type, occupation type, company, or geography. To sign into @RPInet for the first time, use your RPI ID number, which is printed on the mailing label of this issue of Rensselaer magazine. Visit http://arpinet.rpi.edu to get started.

LinkedIn is a free network of more than 20 million professionals from around the world. Nearly 4,000 Rensselaer alumni have already joined the Rensselaer Alumni group. Members have the ability to create their own discussion topics, search for jobs and company information, and more. Visit www.alumni.rpi.edu for a link to the LinkedIn Web page.

Facebook is a social utility that allows you to keep up with friends, upload photos, and share links and videos. To connect with other Rensselaer alumni, become a member of the Rensselaer Alumni Association “fan page,” which is updated regularly with alumni news and events. To join, follow these steps:

  1. If you are not currently a Facebook member, visit www.new.facebook.com to sign up and create your profile.
  2. Once you’ve established an account, sign in and go to www.new.facebook.com/pages.
  3. In the “Search” field, type in RAA—Rensselaer Alumni Association.
  4. Once on the RAA page, click the “Become a Fan” button in the upper right-hand corner.

Rensselaer Sports Go Virtual on Facebook and YouTube

The open Facebook group provides schedule alerts and other event information for Rensselaer sports fans. Visit the page at www.new.facebook.com/ group.php?gid=31070281414.

The YouTube channel will provide SportsCenter-like game highlights and other video content. Find game highlights through the individual sports schedules on the main athletics site at www.rpiathletics.com, or on the RPI Athletics YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/rpiathletics.
