Kenneth DeGhetto ’50 Awarded Honorary Degree by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Kenneth DeGhetto ’50, center, was awarded the honorary degree of doctor of science by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), from which he graduated with the wartime class of 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy and saw action in the Pacific, earning seven battle stars and rising in rank from ensign to lieutenant. After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer, he joined the Foster Wheeler Corp., where he rose to executive vice president of the firm. He later became president of Foster Wheeler International Co., and in 1982, was named chairman of the board of the Foster Wheeler Corp., a position he held until his retirement in 1987. DeGhetto is the recipient of the Davies Medal for Engineering Achievement, the Albert Fox Demers Medal, and the RAA Fellows Award, all from Rensselaer. He was named USMMA’s Alumnus of the Year in 1988.

Mike ‘Sandy’ Hurle ’84 recently stopped in Pittsburgh to check in on Sean Lydon ’84. They enjoyed a barbeque and sampled some of Mike’s California wine collection while catching up. Everything was going great until a few raindrops fell and they both had to put their hats on.

Ft. Lauderdale Reunion

A group of friends gathered in Ft. Lauderdale in November ’06 for a long-overdue reunion. Leaving their families behind, these alumnae traveled from New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Colorado, California, Connecticut, Georgia, and Florida for a weekend of sport fishing (almost), catching up, and reminiscing.
