GE Breaks Ground at Tech Park

Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson joined together with New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, General Electric (GE) executives, and others to break ground on the new $165 million General Electric Healthcare high-tech digital X-ray production facility at the Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush on Nov. 15.

The facility will be built by General Electric to make state-of-the-art, digital X-ray mammography machines. Senator Bruno has committed a $10 million New York state capital grant to invest in the construction of the new facility. “Today’s groundbreaking symbolizes a joint commitment to transferring innovative technology to the marketplace, and spurring economic growth through innovation,” said President Jackson. “We applaud Senator Bruno for his commitment to building a critical mass of technology infrastructure in the Capital Region, and we are pleased to welcome GE Healthcare to the Rensselaer Technology Park. GE and Rensselaer share a long history of innovation, and this new project is another platform for harnessing our common strengths to provide technology to the global marketplace.”

The new facility, which will include 60,000 square feet of clean room space, is scheduled to open in early 2009.
