Rensselaer’s Lally School Featured in Princeton Review’s “Best 296 Business Schools” October 9, 2008: Rensselaer’s Lally School of Management & Technology is an outstanding business school, according to The Princeton Review. To identify the best programs, 19,000 students attending the 296 business schools profiled were surveyed. Rensselaer Rises in Rankings of Nation’s Top 50 Universities August 22, 2008: Rensselaer has risen in its rankings among all national universities in the annual U.S. News & World Report list of “America’s Best Colleges,” weighing in at 41st, up from 44th last year. Forbes Recognizes Earning Power of Rensselaer Graduates August 6, 2008: Rensselaer graduates’ earning power and potential has recently been recognized by Forbes magazine. The business publication ranked Rensselaer graduates as some of the top earners in the country when compared with other university alumni. Rensselaer Launches Five-Year Collaboration With Leading Chinese University August 5, 2008: The Lally School of Management & Technology at Rensselaer and the School of Management at Zhejiang University signed a five-year agreement to enhance and strengthen the global reach of each university’s entrepreneurial business and technology programs. $1 Million Scholarship Supports Future Engineers July 14, 2008: Rensselaer has received a gift of $1 million to establish the Paula and Jeffrey R. Top Economist Becomes Head of Economics at Rensselaer June 24, 2008: Internationally renowned economist Arturo Estrella will join Rensselaer as the new head of the department of economics. New $2.7 Million Grant Brings Rensselaer Graduate Students To Local Classrooms June 16, 2008: A program entitled “Energy and the Environment,” funded by a new 2.7 million five-year NSF grant, will place science and engineering graduate students from Rensselaer in high school classrooms across New York’s Capital Region. New Rensselaer Scholarship Opportunities Recognize Academic Excellence and Leadership May 30, 2008: Rensselaer announced two new annual scholarships for prospective students in recognition of their academic excellence in mathematics and science, and leadership, service, and devotion to their peers, schools, and communities. New $1.5 Million Professorship Honors Teaching Excellence May 29, 2008: Rensselaer has announced a $1.5 million gift to the endowment to create the P.K. Lashmet Career Development Professorship. Lashmet is a retired professor of chemical and environmental engineering. At Rensselaer, Freshman Applications Jump 100 Percent in Three Years January 17, 2008: More than 11,000 high school students have filed applications to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The record number of applications for 2008 is up 10 percent from the previous year, and it is more than double the number received just three years ago in 2005. Web Language and Artificial Intelligence Expert Joins Tetherless World Research Constellation October 16, 2007: A leading expert in Web research, Deborah L. McGuinness, joins Rensselaer as an endowed chair of the Tetherless World Research Constellation. She is one of the creators of the Web language that is ushering in the next generation of the World Wide Web. Rensselaer Chosen Among the Top 60 Design Schools In the World October 12, 2007: Rensselaer has been counted among the 60 “most forward-thinking design schools” in the world, according to BusinessWeek magazine’s second annual survey of the best design schools around the globe. Nanotechnology Initiative Presents Research Opportunities for Rensselaer Students September 10, 2007: A new partnership between Rensselaer, Sandia National Laboratories, and a select group of leading universities and corporations will present Rensselaer graduate students with a host of new cutting-edge internship and research experiences. President’s Commencement Colloquy To Air on WMHT-TV “Balancing on the Knife-Edge: Politics, Technology, and Ethics” August 20, 2007: The 2007 President’s Commencement Colloquy, which featured four individuals who have shaped the international discourse on some of today’s most pressing issues, is scheduled to air twice in the coming week on WMHT-TV. Rensselaer Once Again Ranks Among the Nation’s Top 50 Universities August 17, 2007: For the eighth year in a row, Rensselaer has been counted among the top 50 universities in the nation, according to U.S.News & World Report. The Institute was ranked 44th among all national universities and listed as one of the top 25 colleges in the publication’s “Great Schools, Great Prices” category. Rensselaer Senior Spends Summer at NASA Researching Space Technology July 5, 2007: Senior Phillip Bracken scored a front-row seat June 8 to watch the space shuttle Atlantis take off and embark on its 11-day mission. He is one of only 18 college students from across the nation to be accepted into a summer internship program at NASA’s Goddard Academy. Robert Palazzo Appointed Provost of Rensselaer June 28, 2007: Robert E. Palazzo, director of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies, and professor of biology at Rensselaer, has been appointed to the position of provost after a rigorous national search. Palazzo assumed his new position July 1. Career Development Center Wins National Award for Undergraduate Program June 1, 2007: When it comes to identifying, planning for, and achieving career goals, undergraduate students are getting a head start from the Career Development Center at Rensselaer.
