* 50 Year Club *

You graduated 50 years ago or more, so you are automatically a member of the
50 Year Club. We hope to see you at as many Reunion weekends as possible and at both our Reunion dinner (or brunch or lunch—as it has been in the last two years) and at our annual meeting. This year, for the first time, we held our annual meeting at a time other than the Reunion weekend.
We hope that more of you will take the opportunity to attend the annual reunions and annual meetings.

By the time you read this, the 50 Year Club will have reached its 1,000th paid-up member. While all alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more are automatically members of the 50 Year Club, it is those who pay a one-time dues of $50 who are called “active” members. Those dues go to support the activities of the 50 Year Club, especially the annual Student Community Activity Awards given to members of the Red & White student organization, which provides volunteer services to the RPI
community, including visiting alumni and
dignitaries. To find out more about Red & White, log onto the RPI alumni website: www.alumni.rpi.edu/services/redandwhite.

The 50 Year Club also supports the 50th Reunion Display Case in the Student Union. In addition we make occasional modest donations to special events and activities. To keep the organization solvent, we strive to get at least 70 new members from each 50-year class. Some classes have been significantly more “active” than others. The Class of ’52 has issued a challenge—“Beat us, if you can.”

As each class reaches its 50th Reunion year, it is asked to select two or three class members (preferably within reasonable distance of Troy) to serve on the 50 Year Club board of directors. The board meets three or four times a year and actively participates in each Reunion and as many other on-campus activities as possible. This year board members sponsored a reception for incoming transfer students and also participated with other alumni and Red & White Students at the welcome barbecue for the incoming Class of 2014.—Bud Hovey ’52
