Michael Phinney ’95 Promotes Sustainable Design and Construction
Michael Phinney ’95 celebrated the 10th anniversary of his company, Phinney Design Group, in November. The architecture, interior design, green building consulting, and construction management firm is located in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Known for commitment to green technologies and ecological features, Phinney and his staff of 16 have created spaces for municipal, residential, commercial, and hospitality clients throughout the Northeast.
Phinney says he first realized his passion for environmentally sensitive architecture while attending the School of Architecture at Rensselaer, and says he has enjoyed “forwarding our green efforts and changing the misconceptions about environmentally friendly development. It can be done beautifully.”
The firm’s portfolio includes the Sagamore Resort on Lake George, the new Whitney Viewing Stand at the Saratoga Race Course, the Mohonk Mountain House, and numerous private, custom residences.
Phinney Design Group has received a number of awards, including the Preservation Recognition Award, Adirondack Park Excellence in Design Award, Business Review 40 under 40, NYS American Institute of Architects Merit Award, and the Small Business Excellence Award.
