FOOTBALL
The Engineers capped their 2009 season with a 13-10 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy, on Saturday at East Campus Stadium. Freshman Matt Wood (Skaneateles, NY) ran for a career-high 102 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries to lead RPI offensively. Rensselaer finishes its season at 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Liberty League.
MEN'S SOCCER
The 13th-ranked Engineers went 1-1 last week, topping 20th-ranked Eastern Connecticut State (1-0) in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, before being edged by sixth-ranked Williams (1-0) in the Second Round. Senior Jabel Prom (Sandy Spring, MD) recorded the lone tally in the win over the Warriors. Rensselaer, which reached the Second Round of the NCAAs for the first time since 1997, finished its season with a 14-3-2 overall record, including a 5-1-1 mark in the Liberty League.
CROSS COUNTRY
Rensselaer competed at the NCAA Regional meet and both sides had strong finishes. The women's team posted its best finish ever at the Atlantic Regional Meet, finishing fifth in the 33-team event with a score of 181. The men finished 17th out of 43 schools with a score of 478. The women, who were paced by freshman Marie Ferro (18th overall), received their first ever at-large bid into the NCAA Championships. The meet will take place on Saturday (11am) and will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Highland Hills, Ohio.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Engineers went 1-0-1 last week, topping Yale (4-1) on Friday, before tying Brown (1-1) on Saturday. Senior Allysen Weidner (Prior Lake, MN) had a three-point weekend, including the lone RPI goal against the Bears. Rensselaer (4-6-4; 2-2-2 ECACH) returns to action on Saturday, when it visits fourth-ranked New Hampshire (5pm). MEN'S HOCKEY
Rensselaer went 1-1 on its North Country trip last week, topping Clarkson (5-2), before falling to St. Lawrence (2-1). Sophomore Alex Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ) had a team-best three assists in the victory over the Golden Knights.
RPI is back on the ice on Wednesday, when it visits Niagara for a non-league contest (7pm). SWIMMING & DIVING
Both squads went 1-1 last week, as the men's and women's teams each beat Vassar on Saturday, before falling to Hartwick on Sunday. The Engineers men topped the Brewers, 184-109, while the women were victorious by a score of 186-114. Senior Kevin Ehrlich (Manchester) had a solid meet against Vassar, posting three victories on the afternoon. Both teams are idle until December 4 and 5 when they compete in the Liberty League Championships, hosted by the University of Rochester.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Engineers went 1-0 last week, beating Sage College, 82-62, in their season opener. Senior Ricky Philatre (Randolph, MA) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Rensselaer, which is led by 28th-year head coach Mike Griffin, hosts the Rensselaer Tip-Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday at East Campus Arena. RPI takes on Cooper Union on Friday (6pm) and either MIT or John Abbott on Saturday (3pm).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Rensselaer, which is led by ninth-year head coach John Greene, opens its 2009-10 schedule on Friday against Northwood College (5:30pm) in the Salem State Tip-Off Tournament. The Engineers make their East Campus Arena debut on November 29, when they host Paul Smith's College (NY) at 2pm.
**As is the case with 21 of Rensselaer’s 23 intercollegiate programs (exceptions are football and men’s hockey), there is no admission charged for home games.
