David M. Hirsch ’65

David M. Hirsch ’65 is Managing Director of Mustang Partners, LLC, a private investment firm. After earning a bachelor of electrical engineering degree from Rensselaer in 1965, followed by an MBA from Harvard in 1967, Hirsch joined Simplex Wire and Cable Corporation as a financial analyst. He subsequently became Executive Vice President of Columbia Electronic Cable, a division of Avnet. He became President of Pawtucket Fasteners in 1972, the predecessor of Vertex Distribution which he sold in August of 2008.
Hirsch is chair of the Rhode Island Foundation, director of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island and Connecticut, a member of the Providence Police Advisory Board and Rhode Island Chair of AIPAC.
His past service includes serving as trustee for the Rhode Island Council on Economic Education, past president of the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island, past national Vice Chair of United Jewish Appeal, past chairman of the Miriam Hospital Foundation, past campaign chairman for J.F.R.I., past national chairman for the Rensselaer Annual Fund, past vice president for the Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island, co-chair of the Wheeler School Centennial Fund, and past associate chairman of the National Fastener Distributors Association.
Hirsch was a recipient of the Rensselaer Alumni Association's Albert Fox Demers Medal in 1983 and is a member of The George M. Low Society of Patroons of Rensselaer. He is married to the former Hope Alperin and they have three children.
