Francis L. McKone ’63

Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Albany International Corp.

Francis L. McKone '63, has been with Albany International since 1964 when he joined what is now the corporation's U.S. Press Fabrics group as senior development engineer. After a series of technical and marketing assignments, he became vice president and general manager of the Canadian operation from 1972-1976.  At that time he became group vice president of U.S. operations until 1981, when he took over responsibility for the worldwide papermaking products activities. He was named president in 1984 and then chairman and chief executive officer in 1998 of Albany International, the world's largest supplier of industrial textiles, known as paper machine clothing to the paper industry.

Prior to joining Albany International, McKone held engineering positions with two paper industry-related companies. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1960.

McKone holds a M.S. in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1963) and a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (1956). He received an honorary doctor of humane letters in May 2000 from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

He is a former director of Albany International Corp. and Kadant, Inc. He is a member of the Paper Industry Management Association, the Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper industry, the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association, and the Advisory Board of the School of Business at The College of Saint Rose.

McKone is a member of the Stephen Van Rensselaer Society of Patroons.
