The mission of the Office of Research is to realize the Rensselaer Plan’s goal of achieving prominence in the 21st century as a top-tier world-class technological research university with global reach and global impact, by providing strategic and operational support and infrastructure for the development of research programs and projects at Rensselaer.
Support services are offered for faculty seeking research opportunities, research proposal and budget preparation, and guidance on research management and intellectual property issues.
The Office coordinates major research themes and programs through interdisciplinary research centers. Links from this website offer overviews of these centers, summaries of major research projects and recent accomplishments, as well as information on research policies, guidelines, and infrastructure.
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
The Office of Research is committed to the highest standards of research integrity in all work conducted at Rensselaer, providing support and services to assure compliance with ethical and regulatory mandates governing research, including the protection of human subjects, the safe and humane care of animals used in research, biosafety, and conflict of interest, including:
- Guidance and support to investigators planning to conduct research projects involving human or animal subjects, through the coordination and administration of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC);
- Through the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), oversight of the use of recombinant DNA (rDNA) and infectious and/or toxic agents in research; and
- Ongoing education and training efforts.
